JOB SUMMARY
In coordination with the EVP, General Counsel, position has primary responsibility for operational management of PeaceHealth's legal organization. Responsible for identifying system legal services needs and deploying internal and external attorneys to meet those needs. Supervises assistant general counsels and coordinates with department paralegals. Performs legal services as a member of the legal department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides daily management of PeaceHealth's legal department operations. Serves as a senior attorney on the legal team.
Manages legal support and oversees litigation matters for various departments across PeaceHealth.
Assesses legal needs and support of different organizations across PeaceHealth such as Operations, Finance, Risk Management, Organizational Integrity, and ensures their needs are met.
Coordinates the legal department's work flow and legal assignments.
Works with the EVP, General Counsel to assure legal projects and matters are appropriately staffed and handled.
Facilitates and coordinates legal work and manages spending with outside law firms, including relationship management, billing processes, performance metrics with annual review, and analysis of alternative fee arrangements.
Assesses the team's skills, workloads, performance and development needs and assigns projects accordingly. Establishes performance metrics and goals for team. Supervises, coaches, and mentors' staff and participates in recruiting personnel.
Participates in creating and managing departmental budget, staffing plan, recruitment, and participates in annual budget planning.
Provides training and counsel on legal issues.
Assesses and enhances process for litigation and claims management, transaction due diligence, insurance, regulatory filings, and similar legal related matters.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Juris-Doctorate from an accredited law school required.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum of ten years of legal experience in a health care setting required.
Minimum of ten years of management experience required.
Litigation management experience preferred.
Knowledge of healthcare laws and economics preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Admission to state bar association required and ability to be admitted to Oregon or Washington state bar within one year following hire.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires fairly light physical exertion from up to 65% of the time.
Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.
Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.
Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (up to 65% of work time).
