This position is responsible for assisting clinicians in providing dental care, as well as, implementing and evaluating direct patient care. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience. The position will include clinical examination (including history taking, medication list, other pertinent data collection), documenting and informing the clinician of the findings. Ensures patient comfort during procedures for orofacial pain conditions and dental sleep medicine under the supervision of a Dentist.
Maintains basic knowledge of clinical techniques, software applications, or skilled trade. Maintains current knowledge of applicable policies and procedures.
Applies detailed instructions and procedures to resolve routine problems. Seeks guidance on solving complex problems. Reviews and analyzes data.
Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and is customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff. Responds to standard requests from internal customers. Interacts primarily with department personnel, cross-department personnel, internal customers, patients and physicians.
Follows schedule to complete assigned tasks and duties. Performs tasks/projects in a timely manner. Completes work with direct supervision.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Knowledge as normally obtained through graduation from an Accredited Dental Assisting Program.
Current BLS certification is required upon hire. All direct patient care personnel are required to demonstrate competent performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) techniques for adults, children and infants according to the standards of a nationally recognized, standardized, credentialed healthcare provider course every other year.
Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software. Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
Experience with office dental procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
