Assistant Professor of Child Development The Department of Education and Child Development at Whittier College announces a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of child development to begin fall 2020. We are particularly interested in the following areas: physical development, prenatal to infancy, and/or post-early childhood. The successful candidate is expected to teach 20-credits annually that contribute to both the Child Development major and the liberal arts education program. We are interested in a collaborative colleague in the following areas:
Who We Are? Whittier College is located 20 miles southeast of metropolitan Los Angeles. Whittier College is a selective, independent liberal arts college with approximately 1,600 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students. It is a nationally recognized model for diversity and has no racial majority among its student body. With over 60% Students of Color, Whittier is designated as both a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI). Although non-sectarian since the 1930s, the College was founded by the Society of Friends in 1887, and it continues to value its Quaker heritage. With a full-time faculty of 100, the student-faculty ratio is 13:1. It is an AA/EOE employer. The Department of Education and Child Development has a tradition of preparing highly qualified students. We offer a full 4-year major that focuses on the study of children. Offerings include undergraduate studies in child development, and graduate studies in elementary, secondary, and special education, including several credential programs and Master of Arts degree program.
