This position is responsible for providing Perioperative decision support for perioperative operations as it relates to the perioperative EMR by developing, maintaining, and interpreting statistical data for key business and performance metrics to perioperative business owners in an accurate and timely manner for use in planning, controlling, improving operations, and making strategic decisions. The Perioperative RN Informatics Business Coordinator analyzes data generated within the informatics systems to inform clinical practice and to encourage the use of information technology in the direct delivery of care. This position is responsible for working with internal and external customers to provide on-site business operational support through the use of the Surgical Management Systems for perioperative services and the coordination and facilitation of design, build, implementation, maintenance, and operational end user support of information systems for a specific facility/facilities or function.
Provides coordination and facilitation of overall enterprise clinical and operational decisions related to the perioperative electronic record. Participates in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the informatics systems. These activities may include database building, data collection and cataloguing of gathered information, and documentation of the process. Maintains an up to date understanding of the process involved in these activities.
Coordination and facilitation of all project tasks related to the implementation and upkeep of the perioperative electronic record. Participates in revising and implementing changes in components of the informatics systems. Responds appropriately to requests and concerns from users or others affected by the systems. Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues related to the operating system.
Leads key business processes within perioperative services in collaboration with perioperative leadership by coordinating resources, communication, and leading process teams. Participates and assists with the identification and implementation of operating room improvements as related to the EMR.
Provides proactive user support of the informatics systems including but not limited to training and education. Assists in evaluation and development of training and in-service programs.
Maintains membership on, or consultation to, appropriate committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to facilitate the on-going perioperative business processes of the design, implementation, and revision of automated and manual components of the informatics systems. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical practices, JCAHO standards, and the legal implications of the informatics systems.
Gathers data from various sources to document, trend and analyze data necessary to complete projects in assigned area. Generates various monthly, weekly, daily or ad hoc reports that enable perioperative leadership to control and analyze operations. Works with management and staff of various departments to assist with data gathering and/or interpretation. Ensures accuracy of information systems and maintenance of reporting. Ensures the integrity of statistical files and databases used for fiscal and other business reporting purposes.
Acts as a consultant and liaison to perioperative management, administrators, department heads, IT, and co-workers on key business processes as relate to the EMR. Maintains on-going user communication and support to assure user competency and obtain information on usage of the system and workflow concerns through established, regularly scheduled rounds in the facility. Collaborates with end-users, account managers, physicians and clinicians to help define health care information issues and enhancement opportunities and to identify methodologies for implementing, utilizing and modifying informatics solutions and data structures that support health care access, delivery, and evaluation. Provides consultation and project support in conjunction with project leadership for the deployment of new Perioperative and other related IT clinical applications.
Collaborates with users, leadership, and IT department to resolve conflicts between workflow and the information systems. Supports staff in the use of existing technology in a manner which promotes maintenance of patient safety and confidentiality and supports facility-specific and system-wide processes and principles. Performs Research functions. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Healthcare Informatics, as well as new developments in computer hardware and software technology. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory standards, and organizational direction. Utilizes clinical expertise to support clinical users and process teams.
Must possess diverse clinical knowledge and technology aptitude as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent related experience.
The incumbent will be a Registered Nurse (R.N.) with licensure in practicing state.
Must be proficient in the use of system office applications. Must possess a basic understanding of integrated clinical systems. Must have highly developed interpersonal and critical thinking skills with the ability to prioritize needs rapidly. This position requires the ability to convey messages and thoughts clearly to a diverse audience, using both verbal and written mediums. Requires the ability to promote change among large groups of workers. Requires the ability to coordinate information and activities, work under stress of deadlines and frequent interruptions, and to possess analytical problem solving skills. Requires the maintenance of familiarity with clinical care processes and information technology.
Bachelors degree in Nursing; Certification in Nursing Informatics 2+ years of experience performing financial, analytical, and/or statistical work, preferably in a healthcare setting in addition to experience in working with Microsoft Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint preferred
