Oversees front-end (pre-analytic) laboratory operations processes including phlebotomy, lab assistants, and technical support staff. Responsible for all front-end laboratory processes including phlebotomy, specimen processing, sendout/referred testing. Responsible for the quality and quantity of work performed by phlebotomists, lab assistants and non-technical support staff. Will oversee all aspects of reference lab/send-out testing. Communication and/or interpersonal skills for contact with internal and external customers/stakeholders to manage concerns of clients, technical departments and employees in a professional manner and in accordance with HR and Laboratory policies. Some discretion must be exercised in deciding what and how to communicate. Conflict resolution skills are exercised and occasionally on an interdepartmental or inter functional basis. Diplomacy, tact and listening skills are required. Ability to read and comprehend policies and technical materials in the Laboratory area is necessary. Technical and non-technical knowledge of laboratory operations and processes, including phlebotomy and specimen collection. Working Knowledge of computer applications with special focus on word and spreadsheet applications. Demonstrated understanding and application of process improvement skills and concepts.
EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent. EXPERIENCE:
3 years of phlebotomy or specimen processing (pre-analytic) experience with increasing responsibility in an acute care facility.
Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.
Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.
May have Supervisory Responsibilities.
