Christiana Pharmacy Department is currently recruiting for a part time, 16 hours every two weeks, Certified Pharmacy Technician. This position is every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, and will rotate between day/evening/midnight shifts. Holidays as required.
Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, performs assigned duties in support of the Pharmacy Department with an emphasis on accuracy, timeliness and patient safety.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the pharmacist in providing timely, efficient, cost effective, and appropriate pharmaceutical care to the patient.
Refills patient medication bins through robot cart fill and manual picks; updates carts by including new orders, removing discontinued medications, and transferring medications Updates labeling of patient medication bins on admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
Delivers and exchanges 24-hour cart fill to nursing units at scheduled times. Checks medication storage areas for discontinued and discharged patient medications. Ensures that returned medications are placed back into stock.
Reorders medications in short supply and restocks picking station and other areas of the pharmacy. Maintains a clean and orderly work area; checks periodically for overstocked and outdated medications.
Fills floor stock orders and delivers to nursing stations. Restocks floor stock area. Receives and checks incoming supplier orders. Performs floor stock billing. Manufacturing/prepackaging; as required.
Answer telephone and greet personnel coming to pharmacy in a courteous and friendly manner. Refers problem and drug information inquiries to the pharmacist.
Prepare medications through appropriate compounding procedures and aseptic sterile techniques in accordance with USP 795, 797 and 800 in a timely manner.
Makes rounds of nursing areas for medication drop-off and pick up discontinued medications.
Sends prepared medications to nursing areas via pneumatic tube system on a timely basis for STATS and missing doses if the medication can be tubed. All routine medications will be hand delivered to patient bin.
Orient and train new pharmacy personnel.
Manage AcuDose inventory, including accurate selection and loading of medications.
Inspects medications at nursing units, including refrigerators and AcuDose machines. Ensures that medications are stored properly and that only in date medications are stored. Removes discontinued medication.
Recommends improvement of methods and procedures to supervisor.
Performs other duties as required or assigned for emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform to maintain appropriate level of pharmacy service.
Maintains a current knowledge of all departmental safety procedures
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and/or visitors.
- High school diploma or equivalent required - Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) is required - A minimum of one year of pharmacy technician experience required - Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred - Knowledge of generic and trade names of formulary drugs - Ability to type and perform basic math calculations - Computer experience preferred - Strength and endurance is necessary to push the medicine carts back and forth to nursing stations
