The Dental Assistant position is located in the Dental Department of the Acute Care Product Line at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. The assistant enhances the dentist's capabilities by facilitating patient care in the areas of restorative dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, radiology, and oral surgery. The Dental Assistant's major duties include, but may not be limited to: showing courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude for patients, co-workers and the public; assists patients with questions and concerns, sets up operatory for planned dental procedures and cleans dental units for timely turnover; passes instruments safely, accurately and efficiently; keeps operative fields clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortably; Assists in all dental procedures, including oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontics with the general dentist in the dental clinic and in the Operating Room. Imaging requests are accomplished within the desired time frame. Instruments are properly prepared for sterilization by SPD standards. Instruments are prepared in a manner that does not delay clinical care. Participates in patient identification and time out per JCAHO requirements. Pours and trims models from impression; constructs custom trays, base plate and bite rims. Packages tissue specimens, and routes to pathology service.
