The position is located within the Nebraska Western Iowa Healthcare System in Omaha, Nebraska. The Dental Laboratory Technician has accountability and oversight for the dental clinics and will work closely with providers to design and fabricate intra-oral prostheses, both fixed and removable. Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to): Collaborates with prosthodontists, oral surgeons, and periodontists to design and fabricate complex dental or intra-oral maxillofacial appliances. Works with specialists in developing the design of the appliance, fabricates or oversees the fabrication of the appliance from beginning to end and resolves problems in its fabrication. Performs work involved with complex removable and fixed oral-maxillofacial appliances including fixed, semi-fixed, or removable implant cases, the fabrication of completely guided implant surgical stents, partial and complete dentures when the severe nature of the dental abnormalities to be overcome require working to unusually close tolerances, resolving difficult problems of retention, balance, reducing tension on natural teeth and tissue, and similar problems. Advises in the design of unique prostheses for trauma and cancer patients where oral tissue is mutilated or missing and independently completes all laboratory procedures on these cases. Constructs routine full and partial dentures, dental splints and obturators, model work for fixed prostheses and other laboratory products. Pours primary and final impressions; fabricates custom trays; fabricates bite rims; mounts casts on articulators; sets teeth for trial dentures/partials. Investing, packing, processing and finishing dentures/partials; polishes prosthesis following adjustment; fabricates night guards; fabricates provisional prostheses; repairing broken prostheses; adding teeth to prostheses. Pouring and pinning final crown and bridge impressions; sectioning dies; fabricating fluoride trays; fabricating stints; fabricating transitional partials, managing implant fabrication process and fabricating wrought wire clasps. Uses the most current technology of 3-D printing, milling, scanning and induction casting machines to fabricate complex prosthodontic appliances. Consults with patients concerning complaints regarding the esthetics of any present prosthesis. Provides training to dental hygienists, dental assistants, volunteers, dental students and dental residents regarding the use of materials, equipment and techniques involved with dental laboratory duties.
