The incumbent will oversee the administrative and clinical aspects of the Dental Service. Responsibilities: The Chief, Dental Service, has overall responsibility for program planning involving dental care for patients of the VASNHS. The Service Chief is responsible for all professional and administrative activities within the Service including: selection, orientation, evaluation, and continuing education of staff. The Service Chief monitors and evaluates the quality of care provided in the Service. This includes access and efficiency, effectiveness, and appropriateness of care and treatment of patients served by the Service. It also includes the clinical/professional performance of all individuals with clinical privileges in the Service. The Service Chief oversees the implementation of all quality improvement programs required by the Service. Dental Chief will be computer literate and possess management/leadership skills, as well as knowledge of Joint Commission and the accreditation process. In addition to the administrative duties of this position, the incumbent would be expected to perform clinical duties associated with his/her clinical specialty. The incumbent should possess computer skills. Additionally, Dental Chief will be the subject matter expert on oral health and will serve as the local liaison to dental professional organizations, other government agencies and non-VA service providers as well as other departments within the facility. The Service Chief will be expected to work with the VISN to assure that national and VISN policy is implemented. Additional duties include but are not limited to: Maintains working knowledge of VHA regulations, directives and handbooks pertaining to dental operations ensuring compliance for his/her service. Oversees facility credentialing and privileging process for Dentists, including FEE providers. Maintains compliance with Dental accreditation standards of the Inspector General, the Joint Commission (JC), and other survey bodies. Maintains compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and JC safety and environment of care standards for Dental Service. Provides development and review of sharing agreements, service agreements and inter-facility agreements relating to Dental Service.
