Medical Assistance Eligibility Specialist- Associate

Provides the necessary functions to bill, analyze, and adjudicate hospital and professional billing and collection functions for all clinical service lines with respect to the hospitals and all physicians. This position executes and performs programs to ensure efficient operations of the program in order to generate sufficient cash flow to support operations and strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include coordinating efforts with contracted vendors to assist patients with obtaining financial assistance through government programs, capturing accurate insurance information, obtaining appropriate authorizations, billing for Medical Assistance, adjudicating, identifying, analyzing, reducing, and resolving various issues related to accounts pending Medical Assistance.
Performs hospital and professional billing for Medical Assistance for the various clinical service lines.
Analyzes and addresses correspondence received within the department in an effort to ensure accurate billing and avoid interruptions in patient care.
Coordinates efforts with contracted vendors in an effort to assist patients with obtaining financial assistance through Medical Assistance and other government programs.
Responds to requests from local County Assistance Offices and coordinates efforts to identify financial assistance options for patients.
Performs the above-mentioned activities of the revenue cycle to insure cost effectiveness and organizational efficiency.
Works in conjunction with other areas within the revenue cycle and Geisinger to ensure coordinated activities with respect to all revenue cycle needs.
Develops, implements, and directs various quality initiatives to ensure continuous monitoring and improvements within the revenue cycle process of Geisinger.
This includes performing overall departmental operating functions within pre-determined limits and within Freedom-To-Act guidelines to ensure operational efficiencies and obtaining pre-determined performance targets.
Facilitates various technological initiatives in support of business process improvements with respect to all revenue cycle functions and the various service lines.
Participates in a minimum of sixty hours of classroom training per year.
Provides analysis to supervisor and manager of trends and issues identified while performing job functions and makes recommendations to correct issues identified.
