The Dental Lab Technician is given wide latitude in the accomplishment of the numerous duties consistent with the expertise of the position. This position requires Staff Dentists consults on the planning and design for fabrication of complicated appliances. Dental knowledge and terminology are expected during these consults and the technician's advice carries considerable weight in the planning and management of technical cases. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/09/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Utilize dental terminology to effectively communicate with peers, supervisor, and dental providers Discuss dental case characteristics with co-workers and supervisory staff Use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials. Pour, trim, and duplicate models for complete dentures. Contour resin denture bases to reproduce soft tissues. Attach posterior resin teeth to simple cast partial denture frameworks. Trim and polish cured dental resins. Construct dental prostheses. Wax simple single inlays and crowns. Finish, fit, and polish simple crowns and inlays. Perform all functions related to casting. Invest simple bridges. ["The Dental Lab Technician is expected to be creative while functioning with little or no supervision. The technician provides care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional and chronological maturation needs of the patient. Duties will include but are not limited to: Fabricate fixed restorative prostheses: all metal, metal ceramic, all ceramic and CAD/CAM to include properly reading prescription, stone work, pinning, sectioning, articulating, wax up, sprueing, investing, casting, divesting, seating, contacts, staining/glazing and finish/polish, all accomplished by projected due date. Notify supervisor of any complications. (35%) Fabricate removable restorative prostheses: Full denture to include properly reading prescription, custom tray, base plate and occlusal rim fabrication, partial denture, immediate denture, interim partial denture, hard night guard, tri-laminar night guard to include stonework, block out, articulation, choosing/setting teeth to include using shade/mold guides, esthetic wax up, flasking, packing, curing, deflasking, finish/polish, and remount, formed thermoplastic of all kinds, all orthodontic appliances to include wire bending and use of clear cold cure orthodontic resin, denture repairs to include putty/stone matrix, rebase/reline dentures and surgical/radiographic guides/stents of all kinds, all accomplished by projected due date. Notify supervisor of any complications.(35%) Pour, trim, label, document all incoming impressions to include box and pour finals, (alginates, rubber base and polyvinyl). Identify and notify the dental lab supervisor when irregular/distorted impression/casts come in. Distribute cases to the respective technician for fabrication and deliver to respective provider upon completion. (15%) Perform personal area and total laboratory clean up. Maintain laboratory equipment and report to dental supervisor when defective. (5%)\nMonitor supplies levels, identify areas of deficiency and notify lab supervisor when supply orders are needed. (5%)\nPC environment: must read daily emails and know how to navigate VATAS for Time and Leave tracking.
